Bajaj Dominar 400 Overview

Bajaj Dominar 400 also know as most powerful Bajaj yet. One of the most talked aspects of Bajaj Dominar is its powerful engine which has been the eye-catching feature of this bike. With the use of Triple spark 4-valve DTS-i engine, closed fuel injection, liquid-cooled 373.3 cc engine, it is definitely one of the powerful beast competing with high-end bikes. This engine also uses another feature known as SOHC unit as opposed to a DOHC system which we have been seeing on brands like KTM. This single cylinder engine generates a maximum power up to 35 @ 8000 rpm and maximum torque of 35 @ 6500 rpm.

The bike features a slipper clutch for smooth shifting and has 6 number of manual gears. When tested on roads, Bajaj Dominar 400 took 8.4s to reach from 0 to 100 kmph. One of the best impressive thing about Bajaj Dominar 400 is the engine which is smooth during 6th gears also with very less shaking of the bike and makes overtaking looks even smooth. It picks up the momentum very smoothly and momentum increases with time unlike other bikes like KTM RC 390 which has high pick up. The clutch’s assist function allows effortless shifting at any revs while the slipper clutch allows quick downshifts ensuring the wheel doesn’t lock up.

As for the design, Bajaj Dominar features a muscular tank with naked looks and menacing lead lamps. A Beam type perimeter frame is used this bike. The stamped beam-type perimeter frame lends rigidity and strength to the bike with a low centre of gravity. The Dominar 400 is also the first Bajaj bike to get an all-digital LCD-instrument cluster.

As for the front suspension, Telescopic, 43mm forks is used and for the rear suspension, a Multi-step adjustable mono-shock is used. When you ride the bike you will feel how heavy the bike is as weighs 182 kg(kerb weight). Due to this, the ground clearance is quite low with 157mm. One of the major aspects of the outer design of the bike is the headlamps as it features a Full LED with Auto Headlamp On (AHO).

Though the bike is very powerful and efficient, it’s not fuel efficiency bike. It features a muscular fuel tank with 13l of capacity. When tested on road, the fuel mileage is quite below average with only 27kmpl which is quite low. This the only region where Bajaj could improve in this Bajaj Dominar 400.

Another great aspect of Bajaj Dominar is the braking system as it features ABS. With the use of ABS, the braking system and brake distance is also reduced and is safer compared to non-ABS bikes. The dual-channel Anti-Lock Braking System(ABS) controls each wheel separately and in combination ensures complete control while braking. Twin-channel ABS, 320 dia disc is used the front disc and Twin-channel ABS, 230 dia disc is used for rear brakes. A 110/70-17 Radial tire is used for front and 150/60-17 Radial is used for the rear.

Despite of its heavyweight, the bike is quite smooth on the roads. Not only that Bajaj Dominar is excellent for long rides. You will feel very comfortable and easy even though you ride for hours and hours. There is very low pain in the back compared to other bikes and seats are also quite comfortable.
